January All-Staff/Compliance Meeting: Tuesday, January 6, at 9:00 a.m. in the Hoosier Room.

Second Semester CEL’s: Coaches, trainers, equipment room staff, administrative assistants, sport administrators: Please remember that no student-athlete may compete prior to being certified by our Eligibility Officers (Anitra and Kathy). They MUST be on the Certified Eligibility List (CEL) EACH semester prior to competing! Please carefully review your CEL prior to your first date of competition for the second semester, and contact Anitra or Kathy with questions.

New Student-Athletes: Coaches, if you have student-athletes (e.g., incoming freshmen, transfers) who will be practicing and/or competing for the first time in the 2003-04 academic year during second semester, they must first be cleared academically, complete the required compliance forms, and be cleared by the training room PRIOR to participating (practicing) with your team.

Gambling Ban Applies to All Staff: Please remember the NCAA prohibits all types of gambling on NCAA intercollegiate sports or professional sports that are also sponsored by the NCAA. This includes any item of value that is “bet” and participation in fantasy leagues.

Outside Athletically Related Income and Benefits: All full-time and part-time staff members, excluding secretarial or clerical personnel, are required to provide a written account of all athletically related income and benefits received from sources outside of Indiana University. Bylaw 11.2.2 specifically states that this written account is to be provided to the Chief Executive Officer on an annual basis. The approval of all athletically related income and benefits shall be consistent with the institution’s policy related to outside income and benefits applicable to all full-time or part-time employees. You will receive a form in your mailbox during the week of January 5—9. Please be sure to fill out the estimated income section at this time and sign the space under the certification statement for estimated income. You will fill out the actual income and sign the form again at the conclusion of the academic year. Accordingly, you will need to do this for 2003 on the second half of the form. We will need signatures in both areas, regardless of whether you are reporting additional income or benefits for either 2003 or 2004.
Please return the form by January 16 to Lorie Canada or the compliance office once you have filled out the income information and signed the appropriate certification statement for both 2003 and 2004.

Team Meetings: Once again, the Compliance Office will be meeting with each team for approximately 30 minutes at the end of their Academic meeting. This will be a midyear rules review for the student-athletes, so coaches need not be present.
